Notes for MARY JANE HAZEN:
Mary Jane Pence, widow of the late John Pence, died Sunday morning at the home of John Lewis in Smith township after an illness dating back several months, death being due to old age and complications.
The deceased was born at Mount Gilead, Ohio, February 5, 1839, she being a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Hazen deceased, and at the time of her death she had reached the age of 74 years and 8 months. She came with her parents to Indiana at the age of twelve years, they making the trip in a covered wagon, and they settled in Smith township where the father cleared away enough land to build his home and it was there that the deceased was reared to womanhood. He has been in feeble health almost a year. The deceased was born on August 5th, 1840 and was 74 years, 7 months and 2 days of age. When still a young man he was converted and joined the Methodist church, holding membership at the must be an afinity of the two bloods; hence the examination were made here to determin the adapatability of the donors blood.
The donor is placed upon an operating table so that should he faint the head may be readily lowered. The recipient is also placed upon an operating table with the head in the opposite direction from the donor. The blood is taken from the artery of the arm after it has been clamped above the incision in the artery. A small glass tube is placed the one end into the incision and the other end into a surface vein of the patient. The ligaments are loosened above the artery and from the vein when the blood stream will be seen to pass from the artery to the vein. The operation is done painlessly and the blood lost by the donor is regained in from four to five days.
Young Glaub was "Game" all through the operation and this was especially proved after the transference, when the surgeons had removed the tube and closed up the incision in the artery and veins. The sight of the blood and the work of the operation affected the young man who was attending and he fell over in a faint. Glaub was off the Blue River Church. He lived a christian life and was an honored and respected citizen. After a residence of 65 years in the community he will be missed and his desparture will be mourned by a large circle of friends and aquaintances.

Notes for IDA CLARA EGOLF:
The many relatives and friends of Mrs. Webster Hively of Thorncreek township were greatly shocked Thursday evening when they heard the news of her death. Mrs. Hively had been in poor health since June 27, 1907 suffering from tubercular affliction and her condition was extremely critical a number of times but she would rally and be better for a few days. Last July a number of abcesses developed on her back and chest and an operatin was performed. The operation however only gave temporary relief and last November she underwent another operation.
After the second operation she was confined to her bed for twenty weeks and it was feared that she could not recover but she was young in years and the desire to live was strong. After twenty weeks her condition seemed to improve and she would be able to be up for a few days after which she would suffer a relapse and be unable to be about for some time. She gradually grew weaker and Sunday she became so weak that all hope was given up and she rapidly sank until Thursday evening at 7:30 o'clock when she passed away and her spirit took flight to its maker.
Ida Clara Egolf was born in Thorncreek township September 16, 1867 and died in that township August 27, 1908 aged 40 years, 11 months and 20 days. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Egolf and always lived in Thorncreek township. On September 7, 1890 she was united in marriage to Webster Hively.
She was a kindly dispositioned lady and was held in high esteem by a lagre circle of friends and acquaintances who extend their sympathy to the husband, father, brothers and sisters who mourn her untimely death.
