Foster Buntain, aged sixty-one years and oe of the best known men in Whitley County died at his home in Richland township Tuesday morning at six-thirty o'clock after an illness of three days death resulting from obstruction of the bowels. The deceased was first taken ill last Sunday when at that time he was seized with a ravenous hunger and proceded to eat a number of hard green apples. Sunday night he was taken ill with cramps and Doctor Tennant was summoned and pronounced it collic and gave the patient medicines that relieved te pain. Monday when the doctor was called he was in a state of collapse and Dr. D.S. Linville was called into consultation by Dr. Tennant, the result being that they found his temperature below normal, the extremeties cold and the pulse feeble, but no pain or abdominal distension. However he was in a relax state and stimulants and artificial heat was administered all day and a normal solution of salt water was used three times. At eight o'clock Monday evening he was seized with violent pain which seemed to be confined to the right side of the abdomen, and it was then decided that it was a case for immediate interference, Dr. Duemling of Fort Wayne was summoned to his bedside. While the doctor was enroute from Fort Wayne preperations were made by Drs. Tennant and Linville for an operation and upon Duemling's arrival the abdomen was opened and it was then found that one of the intestines had a band about it and was attached to the Illeo Cencle region, and that about eight or ten feet of the intestine was as black as could be, and that circulation had been shut off from that region. The adhesion was torn loose, the bowels steamed and hurriedly placed back in the abdomen and the incision closed. The patient rallied from the anaesthetic in about one hour, but could not rest and Tuesday morning he departed this life.
At the time he was first taken ill his condition was such that the physicians instructed those in charge to send for his wife who on last Thursday went to Lincoln Nebraska to make a visit with relatives, this being the first visit that she had made since thier marriage. They immediatly telegraphed to her , she leaving Lincoln , Monday morning for home. She was met Tuesday by M.H. Maston a Chicago who is a brother and on whose shoulders fell the duty of informing Mrs. Buntain of her husbands death.
The deceased was born in Richland township,Whitley County January 3rd, 1850 and died November 1, 1910, his age at the time of his demise being 60 years, 9 months and 28 days. He recieved his early education in Richland township and was reared to manhood at the old Buntain homestead where he died. He was united in marriage in 1889 to Miss Elizabeth Maston, and to this union there were no children. He leaves a wife , one brother, John R. Buntain, and one sister Mrs. C.D. MRS. HELEN BUNTAIN, HOSPITAL EMPLOYE, DIES THIS MORNING
Mrs. Helen Buntain, 59, wife of Arthur Buntain, Larwill, ended her life about 1:15 a.m. today when she walked into the path of an eastbound Pennsylvania Railroad passenger train at the east edge of Larwill.
Her death was the second in less than a week by this means. Mrs. Virginia Phillips, 47, Warsaw, took her life in a similiar manner Tuesday.
Mrs. buntain for ten or 12 years had been an employe at Whitley County Hospital and had been working in the offices of the institution.
Her husband told Dr. John S. Wilson, county coroner, and State Trooper Melvin Wall, who investigated the death, that she had been extremely despondent during the past several weeks and that on previous occasions he had halted her from walking some 125 feet down a path from their home to the railroad tracks.
The death was reported by the train crew which brought the eastbound passenger train to a halt when the engineer reported that a woman had walked into the path of the train. The crew notified the Vandale tower and it halted a westbount freight train a mile east of Larwill east of the Si Menzie farm until a search revealed the body.
The train was NO.54 which its engineer G. O. Hoot reported was traveling about 75 miles an hour.
Apparently Mrs. Buntain was hurled some 95 feet across the westbound track. Identification was made by one built-up shoe which she wore and by parts of her dress. She was hurled 95 feet in a northeast direction to a point 28 feet north of the north rail of the westbound track.
Her husband was disturbed by the red lights on emergency vehicles and left his bed. He noticed her glasses on the kitchen table along with her wrist watch. He searched the house for her but could not find her.
Mrs. Buntain was born on Oct. 11, 1905, a daughter of Benson and Gertrude Waldon Oliver.
She graduated from the South Whitley high school and on October 4, 1926, was united in marriage to W. Arthur Buntain. They estabolished their first home in South Whitley and with the exception of a period of three months, during which time they were at Fort Wayne, they have always resided in Whitley county. Since 1940 they have made their home at Larwill near the Larwill School.
Mrs. Buntain was a member of the Larwill Methodist Church.

Notes for ELISHA FOSTER BUNTAIN:
C.D. Copelan and a host of other friends and relatives to mourn thier loss.
The funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at two o'clock at the Larwill M.E. church the Rev. Wright officiating and interment will be made in the Larwill Cemetery.

Notes for HELEN OLIVER:
The surviving relatives in addition to her husband, include one son, Wendell Buntain, Lucern; six daughters, Mrs. Merle (Doris) Brumfield, R 4 Warsaw, Mrs. Ardith Rager, R 4 Warsaw, Mrs. Karen (Vera) Clark, R 2 Warsaw, Mrs. Darrel (Louise) Brown, Standish Mich., Mrs. Benjamin (Gertrude) Maggert, Columbia City, Mrs. Gerald (Alice) Pfeiffer, Pierceton; 21 grandchildren; two brothers, Carl Olivewr, Youngstown, Ohio and Spencer Oliver, Fort Wayne; one sister, Mrs. Pearl Meyers, South Whitley.
